This device has made my speech and life so much better. It is very frustrating not to be able to communicate, especially when you use to coordinate everything. My speech therapist recommended the EMST 150 - Expiratory Muscle Strength Trainer.  It has been a tremendous help and has made a huge impact. Imagine being able to talk longer without becoming totally breathless? It takes some work, but it’s possible.

She explained that the diaphragm is a muscle, and like any other muscle in the body it can be strengthened with practice and exercise.  With regular use, the EMST150™ strengthens the muscles involved in coughing, swallowing and breathing.  It is made to help patients with many neuromuscular diseases such as Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, Huntington’s ALS and others.  Dysphagia i,a disorder of swallowing. is also a common occurrence in aging.

Just breath into the device until you feel that air go through, it’s kind of like trying to blow up a balloon. I do this in 5 sets of 5, 5 times a day. The device is small, so I just put it in my bag and am ready to go. These exercises have not only helped with my breathing, but also the excess saliva due to lack of swallowing (drooling…yuck) and I cough better as well!  With less choking and a smaller degree of panic if I do, meal times are much better.

The website says that it is also good for swimmers, athletes, and vocalists.  It is a great source of information regarding the product and its benefits. Check it out!

If you want to order it..Here is the link
